take my life and let it be

  1. Take my hands and let them move

--At the impulse of Thy love.--

Take my feet and let them be

    Swift and beautiful for Thee.

“Take My Life and Let It Be”
    Frances Havergal

We sang this hymn at church Sunday, and I have been thinking about it ever since.
These verses have also been on my mind . . .

For Christ's love compels us,

because we are convinced that one died for all,
and therefore all died.
And he died for all,
that those who live should no longer live for themselves
but for him who died for them and was raised again.
1 Corinthians 5:14-15

She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
Proverbs 31:20

And so I have been hearing these phrases over and over in my mind . . .
thinking about my hands and feet moving at the impulse of His love,
thinking about being compelled by Christ's love,
and thinking about this verse that says my hands should reach out.

I am trying to figure out what this means for me
right now, where I am at . . .
even today.

For now I know that today I am driving 4 hours to Oklahoma
for my great-uncle's funeral.
I will get to see my family and spend time remembering my uncle's life.
It was an interesting one.
Hopefully soon I can tell you about it and try to put into words
all that has been going on in my head and heart since he died.

Thanks for reading, friends.

  2. Amber, so sorry about your loss. I hope you have lots of great memories of your uncle.

Just an hour ago I did a blog post about a sympathy card that I made this evening for a friend. I used the words of an old (1832) hymn on the sympathy card. I hope you'll take a look at my post in the next few days. I think the words of that hymn would be an encouragement and comfort to you during your time of grief. With love and sympathy, Donna

    1. Thank you, Donna! We do have some great memories of my uncle (great-uncle, in fact--he was my grandpa's brother). He was quite the character. It was good to be with family Thursday.

Your sympathy card is beautiful, and I *love* that song!

  3. Thanks for the Sovereign Grace music link. I had not heard the song before. I just *happened* upon it (like we just happen upon things.....yeah right) in the old hymnal that I have.

  4. I just told a lie!! When I pulled up the Sovereign Grace link and saw the "Come Weary Saints" album cover, I thought, "I have that CD!! That shows how much I've paid attention to the words. I will say that there are several songs on the CD that I m very familiar with that I sing along with. I guess since "It is not death to die" was a song that I was not familiar with, I have not tried to learn it by singing along. BUT, now that I have " heard" the message of the song, I will be singing along when I play the CD.
